beauty in being.

Silence.

Why do we run away from it? Why do I always feel like I must say something?
I am realizing that allowing silence is not a sign of inadequacy. No, quite the opposite! Silence takes courage, humility, and discretion.

Silence does not mean that one has nothing to say, but rather that words are not necessary. How liberating to have a moment...an expression...a feeling need not be confined by words!

Silence also demonstrates intimacy. Comfort with oneself, comfort with another. It takes a certain level of intimacy for one to be able to be silent with himself or another. To not have to force an internal monologue within oneself, but to be able to listen! To not have to force conversation with another, but to revel in the space. To smile in space. To dance in the space.

Oh, what beautiful trees! See how the branches so gracefully arc? See how the sunlight filters through the canopy, creating a spectrum of glorious colors? Feel the tree trunk against your back, the soft moss on your hand. Hear the bees in the breeze and the birds in the trees. Notice. Don't talk. Notice, and absorb.

Be. There is beauty in being in the silence.
